Two charged with possession of 544lbs of suspected marijuana

NASSAU, BAHAMAS- Nheru Newton, 44, of Wellington Street, in the orange shirt, and Edgar Bonimy, 39, of Golden Gates, in the green and white striped shirt, were arraigned on Monday in the magistrate’s court before Judge Subusola Swain.

The men were allegedly found in possession of 554 lbs of suspected marijuana last Wednesday, January 9th.

The drugs were said to have an estimated street value of $554,000.

Both men were charged with the possession of dangerous drugs with the intent to supply and conspiracy to possess dangerous drugs with intent to supply.

Both men pleaded not guilty and were denied bail.

The men were remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services and are scheduled to return to court on April 5.

Police are also searching for a third man, Ernest Knowles Jr, in connection with this drug find.
