Three outstanding Bahamians, who were unable to make the initial ceremony celebrating them and 15 other extraordinary Bahamians, honoured by Queen Elizabeth II at the start of the year, got a special ceremony of their own, as they officially received their Queen’s Honours at Government House yesterday.

Former educator Elma Garraway, transportation veteran Kendal Culmer, and ophthalmologist Dr. Jonathan Rodgers received the high ranking awards.

Culmer received an early 70th birthday gift in the form of the British Empire Medal for services to the business community.

He launched his career in the transportation industry in 1977 in Freeport, and over 40 years later, he told Eyewitness News that he is still elated to report to work daily.

Garraway served as an educator and permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education for decades, and received the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for service to education and the community.

Dr. Rodgers, with a stellar record as a healthcare provider, was bestowed the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for services to ophthalmology.
