Trial set for man accused of murder at Govt. House

Jevon Seymour, 35, accused of murder of RBDF Petty Officer Philip Perpall, 52

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — A trial date has been set for the marine accused of murdering a senior Royal Bahamas Defence Force officer and the attempted murders of two other marines at Government House.

Jevon Seymour, 35, appeared before Justice Bernard Turner, who set a trial date of September 21, 2020.

Turner said he expects the trial to take three to four weeks as there are 25 witnesses listed. The judge also set a pre-trial review for September 11, 2020, during which the court will assess whether to move forward with the proposed date for trial.

An alternative trial date of January 25, 2021 was also scheduled in the event the parties are not ready to proceed in September.

Seymour returns to court on November 21stfor case management.He remains on remand at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.

Last week, Seymour denied all charges brought against when he appeared before Justice Carolita Bethell. It is alleged that Seymour shot and killed RBDF Petty Officer Percival Philip Perpall, 52, on April 28.

Seymour is also accused of possession of a firearm with the intention of endangering the lives of Kelvin Hanna and Ellis Rahming on Government House grounds.
