Tourism is on “fire”, says D’Aguilar

Tourism is on fire, according to Minister of Tourism Dionisio D’Aguilar, who said “God was waiting” on the Free National Movement (FNM) to be government for the industry to be rejuvenated.

Speaking at the FNM’s one year election win anniversary, D’Aguilar said, the country’s number one industry is booming under the Minnis administration.

“After years of starvation and downgrades, tourists are coming back to The Bahamas in record numbers,” D’Aguilar said.

“You speak  to all the hotel operators and they will tell you business is booming. Ask the people in the airport and they will tell you they have never ever, ever seen so many people pass through that airport, because tourism is on fire.

“There are more job opportunities in the private sector. People are optimistic about the future and many, many investors, both Bahamian and foreign, are now coming forward with their projects and plans to invest in our economy.”

D’Aguilar, also the aviation minister said, there are also plans in the works to build and upgrade airports around the country.

“There are plans for new hotels, especially in the Family Islands, and also in New Providence. There are plans for new tours and activities,” he said.

“And, in our aviation sector, we have plans to build new airports in Exuma, Eleuthera and Deadman’s Cay, Long Island.”
