Three women, and a man robbed in separate incidents

Authorities warned earlier this month of women being increasingly targeted

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Authorities were investigating three armed robberies and an attempted armed robbery that took place in separate incidents on Thursday.

In each of those incidents, a woman was robbed.

In the first incident, police reported that a woman standing in front of a home on Spikenard Road around 8 a.m. was held at gunpoint by a man and robbed of her handbag, which reportedly contained cash and other items.

The gunman ran away.

At the same time, another woman standing in front of a residence on Victor Road, Coral Harbour, was approached by an armed man who demanded cash.

However, authorities said the man was unsuccessful in robbing the woman.

He got into an off-white SUV (special utility vehicle) and sped off.

In the third incident, a man and a woman standing in front of a residence on Carmichael Road shortly after 9 a.m. were approached by an armed man and robbed of cash, before getting into a SUV and speeding away.

Additionally, authorities said two armed men approached a woman standing in the parking lot of business establishment on Collins Avenue around 9 a.m. and robbed her of a bag containing cash and other items, before getting into a white Nissan Cube.

There have been a series of recent armed robberies involving women.

Authorities also reported that shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday a woman pulled up to a residence on Rhodes Street, Southern Heights, when a man held her at gunpoint and robbed her of her 2015 charcoal gray Honda Accord, cell phone and other items.

Earlier this month, authorities warned that women were being increasingly targeted as they arrived home or left home.

Between July 30, 2019 and August 3, 2019, nine women were robbed at gunpoint.

“Stop delaying yourself on the outside when you are coming from your car to your house,” Chief Superintendent Solomon Cash told Eyewitness News Online.

“If you are going inside, just go inside the residence rather than [lingering] around looking for items in your car and that sort of stuff.

“In addition to that; if you are carrying valuables and you are arriving home, I would advise you to alert someone who is home who would be on the lookout; once they pull up home, somebody would be there, present, to observe what is going on in the surroundings.”

Last month, police also reported a trend of individuals being robbed while walking late at night, particularly in the south and southwestern portions of the island.

In response to both trends, Cash said police have taken steps to increase police presence and saturation in relevant areas.
