Three to be charged this week after $1.6 million drug bust

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Three adult Bahamian males are expected to be formally charged before a magistrate court this week, after they were allegedly found in possession of a large quantity of marijuana on Friday, May 3, 2019.

According to police reports, shortly after 6:00a.m. on Friday past, Drug Enforcement Unit Officers, Marine Support Services Officers and U.S Law Enforcement Officers intercepted a 27ft white speed boat in waters 20 miles southwest of South Andros.

A search of the vessel uncovered 43 crocus sacks with suspected marijuana.

Police said the drugs weighed 1,627 pounds and had an estimated street value of $1,627,000.00.

Three adult Bahamian males were on board the vessel and were taken into custody.
