Teenage trio arraigned on robbery charges

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — A woman and two men were arraigned in the Magistrates Court yesterday for allegedly robbing a man of jewelry and $3,000 in cash.

Mya Smith, 18; Demetrius Bastain, 19; and Kelito Johnson, 18, appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney and were charged with the September 10 robbery of Delgado Culmer.

Prosecutors alleged that on the day in question, the trio robbed Culmer of a silver rope chain and charm valued at $150, and $3,000 in cash.

Bastian was charged with two counts of dishonestly receiving the jewelry and the cash.

Johnson was charged with one count of receiving the cash.

The accused each pleaded not guilty to the charges.

They were remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services and advised of their right to seek bail in the Supreme Court.

The matter is expected to return to court on October 22 for trial.
