Following four grueling matches on Wednesday at the Roscoe Davies Field, the championship matchups for the 2018 Samuel P Haven/ Island Luck (IL) Cares Foundation National High School Soccer Championships are now set.

In the senior boy’s division, the Lyford Cay Dragons will go up against Anatol Rogers, while Queen’s College (QC) takes on the Lucayan International School (LIS) in senior girl’s action.

Finals and third and fourth placement games in both divisions, will be played on Saturday at the Roscoe Davies Field, beginning at noon.

“We love the nationals because it produces some matchups that you wouldn’t really see otherwise, so the games are really exciting,” said Bahamas Football Association (BFA) Secretary General and tournament organizer Adam Miller.

“We are looking forward to the remaining matches and will also be looking for a great crowd turnout on Saturday.”

In Thursday’s opening game, QC edged C.R. Walker’s senior girls 2-1. Tyra McKenzie scored the game-winning goal in the 57th minute to seal the deal.

In game two, neither team scored in regulation, forcing penalty kicks. In the extra time, Anatol Rogers’ senior boys managed to edge past Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools (BAISS) champions St. Andrews 4-3 to advance.

Semifinal three also came down to penalty kicks. However, LIS dominated the penalty session, outscoring Aquinas College 4-1.

And in the final game of the evening, Nick Lopez delivered on a pair of goals to lead Lyford Cay to a 5-0 win over Tabernacle Baptist.
