NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Jones Communications Network (JCN) has named two religious leaders as its persons of the year for 2019.
The duo, Rev. Dr. Timothy Stewart and Rev. Dr. Leonard Johnson, were recognized during the annual ceremony held at JCN studios on Thompson Boulevard on Friday afternoon.
JCN has hosted the yearly program for the past 18 years.
Wendall Jones, JCN CEO, noted that the religious leaders were chosen as 2019 honorees based on their significant contributions to the religious community in The Bahamas and abroad.
Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis – who received the 2017 JCN Person of The Year award – brought brief remarks at the award ceremony.
He commended its organizers for creating a platform to honour nation builders in various sectors.
“It is essential that we honour those who contribute to the development of our society. Public recognition helps to ensure that their contributions do not fade from our national memory,” Dr. Minnis said.
“It also helps to nurture a strong sense of community and national pride. It sets a good example for others and offers young people a source of inspiration.
“Thank you, Mr. Jones, for seeing the value in recognizing citizens who make a difference.”
Both men were presented with plaques to celebrate their achievement.
The awards were presented by Her Excellency Dame Marguerite Pindling.
