NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Special Olympics Bahamas is making a special Christmas plea to corporate Bahamas and private citizens as it aims to raise funds to send a full team to the 2019 Special Olympics Summer Games in Abu Dhabi.
The association needs roughly $55,000 to make it to the games, and the deadline for the money is January 4.
“We realize that it is a substantial amount of money, but we are holding on to the hope that we can garner enough support from both corporate Bahamas and private citizens,” said Special Olympics Bahamas Director Gilbert Williams.
“These athletes are pushing themselves hours at a time, week in and week out. have athletes competing in soccer for the first time, track and field, bocce, basketball and swimming.”
Around 7,000 athletes from 170 nations are expected to compete in the week-long event, which runs from March 14-21.
“We need assistance from corporate Bahamas and private citizens to pull this off. If they don’t, then there is a good chance we won’t get to go. We appreciate everyone that has consistently supported our cause, but we are going to need more people to get behind us, as we prepare to get our team to Abu Dhabi.”
