Six men, one woman arrested for firearm possession

Arrests stem from three separate incidents; two in NP and one in Bimini

NASSAU, BAHAMAS- Two men were arrested Saturday after officers attached to the Drug Enforcement Unit searched a home on Ethel Street, Montel Heights and uncovered a 9mm pistol, which police said contained eight rounds of ammunition.

Police expect to charge the men this week for possession of an illegal firearm.

The firearm seizure and arrests were one of several operations conducted since last Thursday.

Acting on information, officers executed a search warrant on a home in Bailey Town, Bimini, around 5 a.m. Saturday and seized a .38 revolver.

A man and a woman were arrested in connection with the illegal firearm.

The pair are expected to be formally charged this week, police said.

Authorities also arrested three men last Thursday after uncovering three illegal firearms, including two SK-47 rifles and a .40 pistol that contained 12 rounds of ammunition.

According to reports, officers from the mobile and K=9 divisions conducted a search of a home and a property at Joan’s Heights where they found the rifles.

A search of a black Honda Civic uncovered the pistol. The men are expected to be charged this week.

Authorities have confiscated 188 guns in The Bahamas for the year, according to police records.Additionally, 2,084 rounds of ammunition have also been confiscated.Last year, authorities removed a total of 285 illegal firearms off the streets and another 6,254 rounds of ammunition.
