In an effort to help with the revitalization of Grand Bahamas’s economy and providing the islands resort with an entertaining outlet, Bahamian professional boxer Sherman “The Tank” Williams is hosting the “Backyard Rumble” boxing card on May 26 at the Social Affair and Convention center in Freeport, Grand Bahama.

Williams (39-15-2, 21 KO’s) will take on former world light heavyweight title challenger, Colombian Epifano “Diamante” Mendoza (43-26-1, 37 KO’s) in a 10-round bout.

“Bahamian Sons Promotions seeks to create an exciting venue in Freeport and across The Bahamas for live and televised professional boxing,” said Kimberly Williams, Sherman’s wife and president of Bahamian Sons Promotion.

“Easy access to the beautiful islands of The Bahamas are the perfect place to train and get away.”

Over the course of his 20-year pro career, Williams has knocked out 21 opponents, and has only been stopped out right once in 57 pro fights.

Over the course of his career, Williams has taken on former world champions Joseph Parker, Ruslan Chagaev and Christian Hammer, and was leading Hall of Famer Evander Holyfield until their 2011 fight was stopped due to a questionable referee’s decision to stop the fight and declare it a “no contest”.

As for Mendoza, he lost his lightweight title back in 2007 to Chad Dawson. He has also fought world champions Jeff Lacy, Beibut Shumenov and Yunier Dorticos.

Also fighting on May 26 is heavyweight Chris Vendola (8-6, 8 KO’s), who will take on former Mid-American cruiserweight champion Terry Porter in a six-round bout.

Also, on the “Backyard Rumble” undercard, Bahamian heavyweight Amron “The Sandman” Sands (3-0, 3 KO’s) goes against Houston, Texas native John Eugene “Mean Gene” Hill (34-1, 22 KO’s), and welterweight Johnathan Pierre (2-0) goes against Star Johnson (6-28-1).
