Former Minister of Labor Shane Gibson was expected to return to court Friday for further proceedings in the state’s case against him on alleged bribery charges, however, the hearing – which was slated to be held in Magistrate’s Court 9 – did not proceed as planned for a sixth time.
Gibson’s attorney Wayne Munroe, confirmed that case management took precedence Friday.
“The Crown served us with a block of information they say they are relying on. We will have to see if the material contains all of the information we requested,” revealed Munroe.
“This would have included revising documents which we had been waiting on to review.”
Gibson was arraigned back in August 2017, on 16 counts of bribery, 15 counts of extortion, two counts of conspiracy to commit bribery and one count of misconduct in public office.
Last month, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Garvin Gaskin announced that extortion charges were being dropped against Gibson.
It is alleged that the former Cabinet minister bribed and extorted more than $8 million from contractor Johnathan Ashe for clean-up efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.
Acting Chief Justice Steven Isaacs is the presiding judge.
Gibson, who is currently on bail, entered a not guilty plea.
Munroe confirmed that Gibson’s pre-trial takes place June 5.
