NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The sentencing of Don Brennen, who was found guilty of manslaughter in the of Dwayne Jackson back in November 2011, was put off yesterday.
Brennen appeared before Justice Renae McKay for the sentencing hearing.
The jury acquitted Brennen murder, and found him guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.
While convicted individuals are typically remanded to the Bahamas Department of Corrections, McKay extended bail for Brennen on the condition that he wear an ankle bracelet for electronic monitoring.
In court yesterday, the matter was adjourned until next Tuesday to allow the victim’s relatives to participate in the probationary aspect of the court proceedings.
Outside of the magistrates’ court, relatives of the deceased wept.
Jackson’s daughter, Denteria, said the family is struggling to come to terms with the tragic loss of her father.
She said the family is still seeking justice for his death.
“Even if we have another delay in this case, I’m praying for justice because life is just not fair,” Jackson said.
“I’m looking for closure, so that I can move on in my life.”
