Securities commission launches “Start Right!” video competition

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Securities Commission of The Bahamas yesterday announced the launch of a video competition to engage young Bahamians and budding filmmakers to raise awareness of basic investor education concepts.

For the competition, participants are to produce a short video of two to four minutes on the theme: “Starting Out? Start Right!” Videos should be crafted around fundamental concepts like developing savings habits, managing debt and financial planning. The commission is seeking young, creative voices to share these key messages with their peers.

The person or group — with a maximum of three people in a group — submitting the winning entry will receive a cash prize of $5,000 and have their video professionally produced.

There will also be cash prizes for the second and third place runners-up, and a “people’s choice” prize for which the winning entrant will receive $1,000.

The competition is open to all Bahamian residents aged 18 and older and submissions will be accepted beginning November 30, 2021.

Those wishing to enter should visit www.scb.gov.bs/videocompetition2021.html for more information.

The competition is being launched during the commission’s celebration of World Investor Week (WIW), observed from October 11-17, 2021.

WIW is a global campaign to raise awareness about the importance of investor education and protection and the work of IOSCO securities regulators and other IOSCO members in these critical areas.
