The Bahamas Government was once again advised to make a “clean break” from the $5.5 billion dollar Oban Energies deal in a recent letter penned by Save the Bays Chairman Joseph Darville.
In the open letter to Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis, Darville urged the government to “end the tired and broken neo-plantation development model, empower your people and help them find a path towards prosperity that does not sell out our birthright but rather preserves it for the benefit of all Bahamians – those with us now and those to come.”
Darville admonished the government for signing the heads of agreement (HOA) prior to having an environmental impact assessment (EIA) completed.
The activist spoke about his years as a teacher and principal and witnessing, “the hundreds of students made ill by toxic chemicals from industrial plants in Grand Bahama.”
“Clearly, the possible benefits of this deal come no where near justifying the very serious risks,” he said.
