Rolle highlights value of time at youth summer employment launch

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Hon. Lanisha Rolle addressed the Launch of the National Youth Summer Employment Programme last Thursday, at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium to the theme, ‘This is Your Time, Don’t Waste It.’

The Ministry is providing employment for four weeks during the month of July for 1,500 students engaged in New Providence and on each major Family Island.  The Ministry also provides summer camps for youngsters up to early teens that enable them to learn valuable skills in safe, productive environments.

Encouraging the youth employees in the summer work programme, Minister Rolle advised that they take the valuable opportunity to learn new things, make new acquaintances, impress future employers and learn the procedures of the workplace.  It’s also a chance to earn a few dollars to prepare for back-to-school, she said.

She left the youngsters with a little wisdom, originally put forward by Harvey Mackay, on the value of time, stating: “time is free, but it is priceless; you can’t own it, but you can use it; you can’t keep it, but you can spend it; and once you’ve lost it, you cannot get it back.”  She welcomed and congratulated them, and also wished them the best experience.
