NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Resorts World Bimini has announced its plan to reopen on Saturday, December 26, following months of closure due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
In a statement, the resort announced: “Thanks to the resort’s comprehensive ‘safe in the sun!’ health and safety plan and The Bahamas’ Clean and Pristine certification program, guests will be able to responsibly enjoy an extraordinary island escape this winter and beyond.”
Resorts World joins a number of hotels across The Bahamas with highly-anticipated planned opening dates this month, including: Atlantis Paradise Island on December 10; Margaritaville Beach Resort on December 15; and Baha Mar on December 17.
The Bimini resort announced an initial temporary closure in March at the onset of the pandemic in The Bahamas.
It had reopened in June temporarily, however, shuttered again on July 25 when COVID-19 cases began to spike once again in the country.
Late last month in a message to guests on its website that it was unsure when it would be reopening, and would “continue to closely monitor the situation and make changes based on safety considerations and local requirements”.
Since then, cases in-country have trended downward.
President of Genting Americas East Robert DeSalvio said the resort is pleased to be reopening, and sought to assure guests of its safety efforts.
“Resorts World Bimini couldn’t be happier to be opening its doors once again and welcoming back our guests,” he said.
“Our team members have done everything under the sun to make guests’ experiences here clean, safe and fun.”
The statement noted: “From arrival to departure, each step of a Bimini vacation has been reviewed to ensure health and safety, in keeping with the Bahamas’ Clean and Pristine Certification program.
“Hand-sanitizing stations are available throughout the resort and all products offered for handwashing are aligned to CDC (US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) guidelines. The Resorts World Bimini team is ready to respond if additional needs arise and the resort’s travel partners including Bimini Undersea, Tropic Ocean Airways and Silver Airways have stepped up their protocols to ensure that guests can arrive in Bimini and experience the resort worry-free.
“Starting today, future Resorts World Bimini guests should take advantage of several packages available on the resort’s website.”
Resorts World outlined that guests are required to comply with the entry requirements implemented by the government to contain the spread of COVID-19 as the tourism industry reopens, including obtaining a negative RT-PCR COVID test, obtaining a Travel Visa, completing the daily health questionnaire, undergoing a rapid antigen test on the fifth day after arrival and always wearing a mask and social distancing in public spaces.
As of yesterday, December 3, The Bahamas had a total of 7,565 confirmed cases of COVID-19, of which 1,368 were active.
Bimini and Cat Cay have had a total of 81 cases since the country recorded its first case in March.
