NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) made a monetary donation to the Disability Affairs Division, Collins Avenue, recently, “in enforcing [a] strategic objective of strengthening relationships with stakeholders and the community at large as a socially corporate citizen”.
The presentation was made to members of the Kendrick Rolle Management (KRM) Group.
“This effort, known as a White Cane Initiative, will assist in the purchasing of walking canes for the blind in the communities of New Providence and Eleuthera,” read an RBDF statement.
The force also noted, “The month of October is an international observance month to celebrate the achievements of people who are blind or visually impaired, with the white cane symbolizing the importance of blindness and a tool of independence. December 3 is also known as ‘International Day of Persons with Disability.’
“As the Royal Bahamas Defence Force continues to patrol and protect the territorial integrity of the Bahamas, the organization also focuses on community building.”
On hand to receive the donation were Assistant Coordinator Jasmine Frazer and Executive Coordinator Kendrick Rolle, who is legally blind and who expressed gratitude for the donation.
“We are thankful for the partnership by Commodore King and his officers and marines, as this donation will go a long way in assisting blind people who are striving for independence,” Rolle said. “This initiative coincides with October being designated ‘Blindness Awareness Month.’”
The presentation was led by RBDF Base Engineering Officer Lieutenant Commander Gordon Roberts along with Deputy Base Engineering Officer Senior Lieutenant Nevada Bain and Engineering Warrant Officer Arthur McDonald.
