The Ranfurly Home for Children (RHC) is seeking the public’s assistance for financial relief.
Eyewitness News exclusively spoke with, the president of the board of directors, Alexandria Mallis Lynch who said the home welcomes all donations and all volunteers.
“We welcome all kinds of people because the children need mentors,” Lynch said.
The RHC currently houses 29 boys and girls.
Money donated will be used to build more living facilities, school fees, and other miscellaneous things that would assist the kids in need.
“We have other things that we need to do that we need money for. We really need other dorms as we can see we have the space,” she said.
“We are always looking for school fees we want to keep our children as much as possible up to date in education.”
One of the main goals, of the home, is to continue maintaining the upkeep of the property so it will “always be acceptable for the children” to live in.
“What we are looking to do is keep fixing so that we don’t ever fall behind in disrepair again,” she said.
“We had our chickens slaughtered by some wild dogs which, was terrible for us so we’re looking to rebuild our coop and we have to fix our front gate to stop dogs from coming in.”
“We were looking for bleachers for our basketball court so the kids can host outside games.”
Eyewitness News spoke to two former residents of the home who both expressed their gratitude for the care received while in the institution.
“Living in the home was better than where I was when I was growing up because at the homes you get a lot of opportunities and you don’t have to worry about where the next meal is coming from, you get shelter over your head,” said Macelin Presume.
Another former resident, who wanted to remain anonymous, said, “They tried their best to make it feel like home for us by giving us our needs and trying to give us our wants. We still had light, we still had water, we still had food on the table, and we still were going out.”
