According to Bahamas Judo Federation (BJF) president D’Arcy Rahming, the recently held National Judo Open allowed him to get a good feel for the athletes he’s looking to prepare for the upcoming World Junior Judo Championships (WJJC).

The world juniors will be held this year in New Providence, October 17-21.

“A lot of the athletes that excelled are athletes that are living in the BJF’s dorms, so we have had a lot of time to work with them,” Rahming said.

“Now that we have seen who emerged from the tournament, we can now start preparing for the upcoming championships.”

The BJF recently built a dorm-style complex to accommodate athletes looking to take their skills to the next level.

The live-in facility allows coaches to spend more time with the athletes while limiting distractions that most junior athletes face outside of school.

The BJF said it will be looking to build on two stellar performances from last year.

Several of the federation’s athletes were able to medal at the Commonwealth Games, and The Bahamas also hosted and won the Caribbean Free Trade Agreement (CARIFTA) Judo Championships.
