Police recover drugs, illegal firearm and ammunition

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Police in New Providence recovered another illegal firearm, ammunition and a quantity of dangerous drugs on Sunday. This latest arrest comes on the heels of an illegal firearm and drug recovery on Saturday.

As for Sunday’s discovery, police reported that shortly after 5:00 p.m., Drug Enforcement Unit officers were on patrol on Miami Street when they observed a group of men standing near an abandoned building. The men, upon seeing the officers, begin acting in a suspicious manner.

Officers conducted a search of the area where the men were standing and recovered a 9-millimetre pistol, seven rounds of ammunition and a quantity of suspected marijuana.

The four men were taken into custody and police said investigations are ongoing.

On Saturday, Anti-Gang and Firearms Unit officers, with the assistance of K-9 officers, acting on information, conducted a search of a vacant lot on  East Street and Bahama Avenue where they recovered a .40 pistol, seven rounds of ammunition and a quantity of suspected marijuana.

Two men were taken into custody for questioning.
