Police investigate break-in at North Andros Customs department

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Police in North Andros are investigating a break-in at the Customs Department that was discovered on Friday morning.

Superintendent James Moss told Eyewitness News that investigations are ongoing and it is still unclear what was stolen from the office.

Moss also could not indicate whether there was any forced entry into the building.

“It’s still under an active investigation, so not much we could say at this time,” he said.

Meanwhile in New Providence, police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating five men who are believed to be responsible for two separate armed robberies on Friday.

The first armed robbery took place around 8pm.

Two vendors on Charles W. Saunders Highway, were accosted by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.

The men robbed them of cash and their cell phones, and escaped on foot.

The second incident was reported some two hours later,

A man was walking along Martin Street, when he was accosted by three men – two of whom were armed with a handgun, shortly after 10pm.

The men reportedly robbed the victim of his money, and escaped on foot.

In other crime matters, six men were arrested following the recovery of two black 9mm pistols and 16 rounds of ammunition in two separate incidents on Friday.

Police recovered the first pistol and 10 unfired rounds of ammunition after executing a search warrant at a residence on Kendell Avenue in New Providence shortly before 8am.

Three men were arrested in connection with the incident.

The other three men were arrested in Grand Bahama after police recovered a pistol with six rounds of ammunition in a car parked at Taino Beach.

According to reports, a team of officers were acting on information that led them to the Taino Beach area shortly before 9pm on Friday.

The firearm was found in a gold Chevrolet Cobalt that was parked in a parking lot.

Police said the arrested men are all from Grand Bahama and have been taken into custody.

A man and woman were also arrested following the recovery of suspected marijuana.

Officers on routine patrol at Nelson Street, Mt Pleasant Village stopped the pair sometime around 5.40pm.

They were observed acting in a suspicious manner in a black Honda Accord, and a quantity of suspected marijuana was found after a field search, according to police.

Police also found a quantity of suspected marijuana in a separate incident shortly before 1pm on Friday.

No arrests were made during the incident.

According to police, officers received information that led them to a track road off Gladstone Road, north of Dignity Gardens, that is referred to as “Lamp Pole City”.

Police found a black suitcase after searching the area, which contained the suspected marijuana.
