NASSAU, BAHAMAS — As part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence, Patricia Minnis, of the Office of the Spouse of the Prime Minister, made a special visit to the Willie Mae Pratt Centre for Girls.

“During the one-hour visit, Mrs Minnis gave the young ladies an inspiring pep talk, reassuring them that they can be whatever they want to be. She also encouraged the girls to believe in themselves, remain focused and strive to reach their goals,” read a statement on the visit.

Minnis also provided care packages inclusive of hygiene kits to the girls, and “in return, the ladies serenaded the audience with musical tributes and a liturgical performance”.

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence began with the observance of the International day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25. It will span until December 10, which is observed annually as International Human Rights Day. The Ministry of Social Services and local organizations such as Zonta Bahamas have marked the occasion and called on Bahamians to wear orange to show support.

The Office of the Spouse also partnered with the International Men’s Day Organization to present care packages to Programme S.U.R.E. and the Simpson Penn Centre for Boys in recognition of International Men’s Day, which was observed on November 19.
