NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Management at the Princess Margaret Hospital on Monday strongly refuted claims posted on social media, which alleged that surgical equipment at the hospital is being hand washed.

A statement released yesterday from the Public Hospitals Authority (PHA), outlined that this allegation is false and nothing could be further from the truth.

“The hospital performs consistent sterilization and other required protocols on medical devices, equipment and consumables, earmarked for the Operating Theatres and for aseptic procedures, in accordance with international standards,” the statement read.

The PHA said with any functioning, twenty-four-hour, seven day a week facility, there would be challenges from time to time, but the hospital continues to employ a maintenance schedule that allows for equipment upgrades with minimal disruption in services, which is in accordance with the highest regard for safety standards.

“The Princess Margaret Hospital remains committed to providing quality health care to Bahamians and residents alike,” the statement concluded.
