PM to announce Disney decision next week
The government will announce next week which of the two organizations vying for the Light House property will be granted permission to purchase and develop the land, according to Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis.
Dr. Minnis made the announcement during a Town Hall meeting in Green Castle, Eleuthera Wednesday night.
He also said The decision will be made based on the advice of the people because “it is the people’s time”.
Disney Cruiselines and the One Eleuthera Foundation have both submitted proposals to the government to develop the property surrounding Light House Point.
While the property is privately owned because the current owner is not Bahamian the government has to approve the sale.
“This is a very important issue to me, South Eleuthera has suffered a long time and it is time the pain and suffering come to an end,” Dr. Minnis said.
“I am here to listen to you. It is the peoples time. Tell us what you want. Two projects have been proposed and there is a decision to be made. I am here to listen to how you feel and take this back to my Cabinet and a decision will be made next week. I have heard both sides, now I will listen to you.”

The PM should be embarrassed of how he handled this meeting. It was obviously not an open forum for both sides to discuss – it was a pep rally for the cruise line. Supporters of One Eleuthera were not allowed to speak freely without being ridiculed and talked over. The PM may have said, “I am here to listen to you.” but that was a LIE. Here is one Bahamian’s opinion… one who was never given the opportunity to speak at the “meeting”.
