Despite a court injunction to halt the government’s planned demolition of shantytowns, Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis, on Sunday, said it would be unjust to allow the illegal structures to remain intact.
His comments came at a church service marking the 26th anniversary of the Free National Movement’s (FNM) first election win in 1992.
Dr. Minnis said that while the process must be done with great compassion for residents who occupy the illegal spaces, the government cannot be deterred from ensuring that the laws of the land are observed.
Dr. Minnis also used the occasion to reiterate the government’s need to rescue the Our Lucaya property on Grand Bahama. He is expected to tour the property later this week.
