Prime Minister Dr. Huber Minnis said Saturday that he has been in talks with the Bahamas Nurses Union (BNU), as it is currently at war with the country’s health chief who recently implemented a new shift system which the union has said it detests.
Last week, BNU members said they were informed by the Ministry of Health that a new shift system would go into effect September 3, which would eliminate the current four days on four days off system currently in place.
Health Minister Dr. Duane Sands, at the time, reported that the former BNU president had signed off on the shift change and said that the agreement was binding.
However, the union’s current president Amancha Williams, vehemently opposed the change and met with the prime minister in an attempt to work out a new agreement.
Williams told Eyewitness News on Sunday that she is hopeful that the nurses’ most recent challenges will be met with solutions following the meeting with he prime minister.
Williams said her expectations are high, as the prime minister admitted to being aware of overdue payments and the newly implemented shift change.
