Main gear fails on Flamingo Air flight

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — A Flamingo Air aircraft veered off the runway into bushes upon landing at the Black Point Airport in Exuma this morning.

The Air Accident Investigation Department (AAID) confirmed 12 passengers and two pilots on board.

The runway excursion took place around 8:30 am.

The AAID said the right main gear collapsed, resulting in the runway excursion.

There were no reported injuries.

Kendall Dorsett, the operations investigation for the AAID, told Eyewitness News Online that the twin-engine Beech 99 aircraft originated from New Providence.

He was unable to say how far the plane veered off the runway as authorities were still investigating the incident.

Dorsett was expected to travel to Exuma to conduct an investigation.

The aircraft sustained damage to its nose and wing.
