One man in custody after Bahamian woman sexually assaulted at Potter’s Cay Dock

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A woman was beaten, sexually assaulted and thrown into waters at Potter’s Cay dock early yesterday morning.

Superintendent Shanta Knowles confirmed the woman spent more than four hours in the water before she was rescued by a passing vessel shortly after 6am.

Dock master Gregory Minnis confirmed the incident took place at the eastern end of the dock, which is not covered by CCTV.

“Police have a 41-year-old man in custody and are searching for a second suspect,” Knowles said.

“Shortly after 1am, a female was at the water front, when she was beaten and sexually assaulted by two men, who threw her into the water, then left the area,” Knowles said.

“The woman was rescued by a passing vessel shortly after 6am and transported to hospital, she was treated and later discharged.

Knowles said: “A 41 year old man is in custody and is assisting police with this investigation.”
