Press Secretary, Anthony Newbold.

A Cabinet Sub-Committee has been appointed to monitor and report all that is taking place with the $5.5 billion Oban deal according to Press Secretary Anthony Newbold.

Newbold made the announcement Tuesday during a press conference as the Office of the Prime Minister.

Also discussed was the opening of the 2018/2019 Budget communication, which will take place this morning in the House of Assembly, as well as plans for this year’s Bahamian Independence Day celebrations.

The Sub-Committee is set to discuss the information with the project’s principles to ensure that both the government and project organisers are on the same page and share the same expectations then report to the Bahamian people on all their findings.

Newbold stressed that the sub-committee is to monitor that nothing happens with deal that would bring worry to the Bahamian people about its effects on the environment.

Oban completed the first three phases of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) last month.

When asked when the report will be available to the public, Newbold said that he does not have a specific date on the report’s release.
