NPPPSSA Soccer Championships continue

The New Providence Public Primary Schools Sports Association (NPPPSSA) Soccer Championships continued Tuesday at the Roscoe Davies Field.

More than 20 schools from around the island are competing in the week-long event.

“I think it’s great that we have so many schools participating in this year’s event,” said NPPPSSA President Margaret Major-Albury.

“I love to see the way these kids come out and compete against each other on the pitch. We’ve had some close games so far and I look forward to even more close games as the tournament comes to a close.”

The Bahamas Football Association (BFA) is assisting with the organization of the event.

“It’s always great when we get a chance to help out with this tournament. A lot of these kids are playing for our clubs, so it’s good to get them, even more, playing experience through the school system,” said BFA technical director Garry Markham.

“We need as much kids playing soccer as possible so that we can start to broaden our talent pool. The more kids playing the sport, the more chances we have at discovering some elite talent.”

The primary girls took to the field yesterday. On the pitch, Ridgeland beat Thelma Gibson 2-0, Gerald Cash knocked off Sandilands Primary 1-0, C.W. Sawyer defeated T.G. Glover 2-0, Eva Hilton drew with Woodcock Primary 1-1, and Carlton Francis beat Yellow Elder 1-0.
