NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) will soon ‘go live’ with an electronic health record (EHR) system its managing director revealed to Eyewitness News.
Graham Whitmarsh in a recent interview with Eyewitness News stated, “We are working on an electronic health record and that record will go live soon. It will means that all of our beneficiaries sand the private patients who see those physicians will use this health record. That will help the physicians improve the quality of services. It will enable NHI to assess the value of services we are delivering and most importantly will allow the beneficiaries to view their record, the service they are receiving in real time online and actually get to see what the physician sees and records about them during their time at the doctor.”
Mr Whitmarsh noted that security with respect to the system is critical. “Security extremely important. The supplier we are using adheres to some of the highest standards in the world. We are developing a framework for privacy and confidentiality. This is actually the most important thing in implementing that,” said Whitmarsh.
NHI launched in late April 2017 and to-date has over 65,000 beneficiaries receiving services from 91 physicians, at 55 clinics and 8 private labs according to Whitmarsh.
