DALLAS, GEORGIA — Bahamian author Geleta Parker today announced the publishing of her latest book, “Chef Gigi Saves the Day”, the highly-anticipated sequel to the children’s book “Gigi’s French Bakery”.
In the newest edition to the series, Chef Gigi ventures off to the islands of The Bahamas to experience the vacation of a lifetime in Nassau, Bahamas.
Parker, affectionately known as “Gigi”, told Eyewitness News this exciting and educational book brings to the forefront the “good days of old”.
“Sadly, we live in a time where children as well as many adults do not value or appreciate their strong, beautiful Bahamian roots, culture and favorite pastimes of island living,” she said.
“With such an amazing childhood experience, I saw it fitting to share my Bahamian roots and cultures with the world and decided to pay homage to my birth country by sending Chef Gigi to the tropical island of Nassau, Bahamas.
“This book is beautifully illustrated and creatively introduces readers to many of my childhood favorite places — for example, ‘Goombay Festival’, Coral World and Adastra Gardens. This book takes us back to the days of old and reminds us of cultural events like Goombay, touches base on the national flower, as well as introduces many to the beautiful Bahamian pattern called Androsia.”
Parker said, Chef Gigi’s story is one of “passion, persistence, resilience and teamwork” that encourages little boys and girls to follow their dreams.
Parker continued: “More importantly, Chef Gigi, the eight-year-old little girl, teaches the importance of never giving up on one’s dreams, the importance of teamwork and tenacious persistence.
“She gives our little Black and brown-skinned girls and boys the hope that they can accomplish big things, no matter how small.
“It is also so important to see a character who looks like a Bahamian born and bred on the cover.”
According to the author, the book, geared towards children ages 10 and older, has global themes and relevance in addition to loads of Bahamian culture.
“This book shares the Bahamian cultures and cuisine and Chef Gigi shares her enormous appetite for family, food and fun! She uses her innovative thinking and sharp wit in order to help her grandmother, a native of Nassau, Bahamas, save Goombay festival by creatively putting a spin on her grandmother’s famous guava duff,” Parker said.

The series has sold more than 15,000 copies worldwide, according to the author who is a mother of three children, a military wife, substitute teacher at Cobb County Schools by profession, motivational speaker, memoirist, poet laureate and minister.
She has authored four titles — two of which are memoirs where she speaks on her experience as a thriving survivor of abuse.
