NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) yesterday said the medical community in The Bahamas may now benefit from a new book designed to provide online and face-to-face training for medical professionals.

“The book, ‘The R.I.C.H. Experience’ — an acronym for ‘respect, involvement, commitment and honesty’ — focuses on attitudes, beliefs and behaviors in healthcare and how they affect patients, is authored by Aubynette Rolle, director of quality and patient safety at the Public Hospitals Authority (PHA),” the authority said in statement.

“On Friday past Rolle launched her book which also contains feedback garnered via surveys conducted among various demographics in the country. It also juxtaposes these views with responses from patients, families and providers of care abroad.”

According to Rolle, the central theme of the book is to “emphasize the priority that ought to be given to the role of patients and families partnering with health teams in the provision of safe, trusted and timely service, as the delivery of good healthcare involves people and not patients alone, and as such people-centered care is paramount”.

Rolle also said in early-2021, an online course will begin and will cover the areas of policy and procedure development, leadership and team training, infection prevention and control, clinical outcomes, legal and regulatory compliance, as well as quality and patient safety management.

Rolle, the PHA noted, is a veteran in the public and private healthcare sector who has 36 years of experience. She is a registered nurse and midwife but also a health executive and attorney “who has advocated for better care and strategies for improving quality and patient safety at regional meetings at the World Health Organization, Washington DC”.

“Congratulatory remarks were extended to Rolle on behalf of the minister of health; by Dr Pearl McMillan, chief medical officer; PHA Board Chairman Julian J. Rolle; and PHA Managing Director Catherine Weech, among others,” the PHA said.
