The Government will conduct an NSS-wide business process review focused on detailed analysis of current (as-is) processes, identification of gaps, benchmarking standards and best practice and design of future (to-be) processes to enable a seamless integrated, effective and efficient National Statistics System. The announcement came from Deputy Prime Minister of The Bahamas, K. Peter Turnquest, who gave the welcome remarks at a workshop targeting key stakeholders in vested in the development of the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) plan for the country.

Turnquest said the strategy will, “serve as the strategic plan that will provide the roadmap to establishing strategic governance, planning and monitoring of the Bahamas National Statistical System: including the Department of Statistics and the other data producing agencies across government.”

The deputy prime minister admitted that having a plan itself is not enough and that a number of other activities must be completed if the project is to be done properly.

Aside from the NSS-wide business process review, an assessment of the functionality and technical capacity of the information technology required will also be conducted.

The Ministry of Finance’s recent workshop had a two-fold mandate: to prioritize the results and recommendations from the National Statistics System (NSS) assessment; and discuss and come to a consensus on matters pertaining to the NSDS strategic framework such as the vision, mission, goals, and strategic objectives.
