The government has tabled legislation that is expected to address the long-standing and vexing issue of land titles in the country.

Minister of State for Legal Affairs Elsworth Johnson told Eyewitness News that the administration is pushing for the urgent implementation of a national system of land registration.

The plan, he said, will modernise and simplify all land-related issues but he said it would seem as if Bahamians are not interested in having this issue dealt with once and for all.

Johnson said the reform would also make provisions for the accurate circulation of the full extent of Crown Land and the specific locations of every tract.

It also addresses the challenging issue of land fraud.
