NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The mother of the eight-year-old girl who was abducted early Sunday morning said she no longer feels human as she struggles to come to grips with the fact that her daughter, who was snatched from her home in the middle of the night, was allegedly sexually assaulted by her kidnapper.
The abduction occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
In an interview with Eyewitness News Online, the mother said she was asleep when she heard a knock on the door.
“I feel like the whole world crash down on me, by the time I reach to the door, the man already grabbed my baby,” the mother recalled.
“He pushed my five-year-old and he took my eight-year-old daughter. I tried to run behind the car and catch him, but he was speeding and he vanished. I was so surprised and scared I just wanted to get her back.”
Persons in the neighbourhood described the car as a two-door, white Skyline, and they said the alleged abductor patrolled the corner all day.
The mother said her biggest regret is not getting to the door quick enough.
“The man damaged my baby for life because the doctor said she traumatized. She won’t stop messing on herself. I had to get a pack of pampers for her because she won’t stop doing that, she can’t even sit on her bottom.”
Less than an hour after Sunday’s abduction, police said the child was discovered walking in the area of Woodlawn Gardens and was picked up by a passerby who took her to the Wulff Road Police Station.
The mother said she will forever be grateful to the Good Samaritan.
“The man (who kidnapped her) gone inside the home with her and start touching her butt and she started to cry and she said he gone in the kitchen to get a knife and threatened to kill her. He then put her outside and tell her walk and count to 10. When she opened her eyes she said she didn’t see the guy and another guy was passing and saw her in the road and said ‘that can’t be an adult’ and he went back and got her and took her to the station,” the mother said.
The little girl is now at home. However, her mother said she is not the same.
“She just doesn’t want to eat, she won’t eat. We buy drinks and she won’t drink and when she lay down she lay down on her belly, she won’t lay down on her backside,” the mother said. “I feel nasty, I mean she is only eight. Why couldn’t it be me? I have lived my life, she is a child. Why would they do that to a child? I just can’t get over this.”
Police initially said a man was in custody assisting them with their investigations but he has since been released.
