More than 94 thousand marijuana plants discovered in Andros destroyed

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Police on Monday reported the discovery of eight marijuana fields in North Andros, following a joint operation involving the Drug Enforcement Unit, the US Drug Enforcement Agency and officers of the North Andros district in two separate incidents that occurred last week.

In the first incident, according to police reports, shortly before 7:00 a.m. last Thursday, February 7, OPBAT Officers, while on air patrol over San Andros, North Andros uncovered four marijuana fields. Also, with the assistance of Andros Division Officers, a total of 9700 marijuana plants ranging from 6” to 3’ in height were uprooted. The fields were destroyed by fire.

In the second incident on Friday, February 8, police reported that shortly after 8:00 a.m., Officers of the Andros Division, Drug Enforcement Unit and US Drug Enforcement Agency went to a bushy area in San Andros, North Andros where they uncovered four marijuana fields and uprooted a total of 84,810 marijuana plants. These fields were also destroyed by fire.

Investigations are ongoing into these incidents.
