Inclement weather was blamed for the island-wide blackout on New Providence late Monday evening.

It’s the first blackout since the Chairman of Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) Darnell Osborne said recently that all consumers could do is “pray” for no blackouts.

While BPL said power was restored within several hours, residents were still understandably not happy.

According to President of the Bahamas Electrical Workers Union (BEWU) Paul Maynard, the outages will only worsen into the summer months.

He told Eyewitness News that the ancient equipment is not upgraded and Bahamians can look forward to a long hot summer.
