MOE gives away reusable bags ahead of single-use ban

NASSAU, BAHAMAS –  team from the Ministry of Environment and Housing recently distributed free reusable bags to attendees of the Bahamas Agricultural & Industrial Corporation (BAIC) Farmer’s Market on Gladstone Road. They encouraged members of the public to shop with the reusable bags instead of plastic bags ahead of the government’s ban of certain single-use plastics. It is proposed that as of January 1, 2020, plastic bags, plastic food utensils, plastic straws and styrofoam food containers will be banned from use and importation. The release of balloons will also be made illegal as of this date once the ban is in effect.
