Miss Teen Bahamas International unveils nine beauties

NASSAU, BAHAMAS- The Miss Teen Bahamas International  (MTBI) Organization held its 2019 contestant unveiling on Sunday at the Courtyard Marriott, and it was an event that spectators deemed to be a success.

The 16-week program will feature a total of nine beauties who are all vying for the title of Miss Teen Bahamas International 2019.

Last year, the MTBI pageant shifted gears a bit and gained new owners who were not only experienced but had different intentions for its teen girls.

Miss Teen Bahamas International Franchise Owner, Tia Thompson, told Eyewitness News  Online that this year’s contestants have much confidence and are very personable.

“Last year was awesome, but this year we’ve seen the girls come in with good attitudes, they came in confident and it has only grown from the start to now,” Thompson said.

The Franchise Owner said that she is expecting the competition to be stiff and the entire board is looking forward to it.

MTBI Director Monalisa McPhee said that it is a joy to work with the young ladies and she always enjoys it.

“You haven’t seen anything yet,” McPhee said of this year’s pageant.  “By the end of this program, the young ladies that we would have developed will be ready for Miss World, Miss Universe and whatever else there is to come.”

McPhee said she wants the contestants to be given every opportunity that her daughter was not given when she was a teen queen, with lots of opportunities and proper guidance.

“I want to make sure that these girls get every aspect of pageantry and everything that they deserve,” said McPhee.

Reigning Miss Teen Bahamas International, Tyann Cheney, said that she hopes that her successor does not take the opportunity to participate in the pageant for granted.

“I’m really going to miss this and I hope that the person who wins makes it worth it,” said Cheney.

She also encouraged contestants to be themselves and remain confident in everything that they do.

The 16-week program is not only comprised of events and outings but educational sessions every Wednesday, led by mentors like Pia Glover, Sonovia Burrows and Otereo Obainyear.

Sunday dance sessions are led by dance professional Dwain Lamb.

The Miss Teen Bahamas International pageant also has a number of events leading up to the crowning of their newest teen queen.

A float parade and mixer is set for March 23.

The preliminary competition [showcasing evening gown, high fashion and fitness] is set for April 13.

The pageant finale is set for April 28.
