Minnis urging residents in The Mudd to heed evacuation orders

ABACO, BAHAMAS- Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis checked out emergency preparations in The Mudd and other low-lying areas in Abaco and urged residents in those areas to heed evacuation orders this weekend as a strengthening Hurricane Dorian reaches the shores of The Bahamas.

In a brief interview with Eyewitness News, ahead of a final meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister in Abaco before the storm arrives, Minnis said that accommodations were provided for those who wanted to leave.

“We are here to see what else we can do to assist those remaining while we are here,” Minnis said. “The evacuation effort here in m view has been very successful, seeing that all the people that wanted to leave were able to. There was transportation provided for them. We also knew that there would be some that chose to stay and ride out the storm, but we made a special request to their community to let the women, children and elderly leave. We are only focused on the safety of all of our residents and continue to encourage them to heed evacuation orders.”

“In this meeting at my office here today, we are going to get an update from Henfield (Darren) and his officials. Once again, we are concerned about the safety of all individuals in our shores.”
