NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Ramon Dames lead four University of The Bahamas basketball players in double digits as The Mingoes crushed The Pros 96-69 in New Providence Basketball Association action Monday night at The A.F. Adderley gym.
The Mingoes move to 2-0 in division one of the league and are tied with the PJ Stingers. The Pros fall to 0-2.
Dames scored 15 points to go along with 5 assists and 2 steals for the Mingoes. Antwan Bevan scored 13 points with 8 rebounds; Donovan Dean had 13 points, and Kemsy Sylvestre scored 10.
The Pros took the early lead at 7-2 at the 7:34 mark in the first quarter, but the Mingoes went on an 18-2 run to go up 20-9 with just over a minute to go in the same quarter. The Mingoes never looked back in the game that had only that one lead change.
“We executed on both ends of the floor tonight defensively and offensively,” UB captain Ramon Dames said. “We had a lot of guys come off the bench and a lot of rotations and everything was clicking for us tonight.”
The Mingoes also beat The Pros in rebounds (52-42), assists (25-16) and blocks (6-1).
Bevans, who came off the bench Monday night, said the team came with a clear strategy to take on The Pros.
“The game plan was to play tough defense and keep the offense flowing,” he said. “We wanted to switch it up in the second half to run them and we were just trying to push ourselves.”
Heading into the rest of season, Dames said the Monday night game gave bench players a lot of playing time and that translates into more confidence for them.
“After the experience tonight, we now have guys coming off the bench with a lot of confidence,” he said. “And that leads to a lot of chemistry for the rest of the season.”
For The Pros, Judino Wilson, Colton Albury, and Derrick Ferguson each scored 15 points to lead them in the loss. Tyrone Sands Jr. also contributed 10 points.
The Mingoes next play 9pm Wednesday November 23, 2018 at The A.F. Adderley gym against the Fort Charlotte Defenders.
