NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Kemsy Sylvestre was one assist away from a triple-double for The Mingoes as The Mingoes took out the Fort Charlotte Defenders 83-60 in New Providence Basketball Association action Wednesday night at The A.F. Adderley gym.
Sylvestre dumped in 26 points to go along with 13 rebounds, nine assists, and six steals on the night for the Mingoes squad that now move to 3-0 in division one of the league. The Defenders fall to 0-2.
Antwan Bevan also had a big night with 17 points and 13 rebounds for the Mingoes. Brian Jennings also putting up doubles figures as he scored 10.
The Defenders only significant lead of the match came early in the first quarter at 5:32 (10-8). The Mingoes ended the first quarter up 22-17 but then went on a 14-2 run to take the 36-19 lead at 5:45 in the second quarter. The Mingoes would not look back after that in the game. In fact, the squad led by as much as 29 points in the fourth quarter on deep jumper from Sylvestre to go up 73-44 (7:22).
“The game plan was to figure out the shooters we came in and we didn’t know who their shooters were so we stacked it in the paint,” Bevans said. “We realized they had no real shooters so we kept the compact defense to dominate.”
The Mingoes also beat The Defenders in rebounds (57-45) and assists (23-14).
Bevans, who again came off the bench for the third straight game, said he had a personal goal for the night and it showed in his numbers.
“I wanted to come out and rebound the ball more,” he said. “I don’t think I was too aggressive before so I just came out and played hard”
For The Defenders, Gregory Seymour lead them with 17 points and 15 rebounds in a losing effort. Leon Rahming also contributed 12 points for the first-year team.
The Mingoes next play 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at the A.F. Adderley gym against the JD’s Seafood Shockers.
