NASSAU, BAHAMAS- Shaunae Miller-Uibo, Anthonique Strachan and Tynia Gaither all advanced to the semifinals of their respective events today at the International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
Miller-Uibo easily qualified for the semifinals of the women’s 400 meters (m), winning her heat today in 51.30 seconds.
She quickly made up the distance on the first bend after a slow start and then pushed past the competition to take a comfortable lead and cruise into the next round.
Deborah Sananes, from France, was second in 51.76 seconds, while American Wadeline Jonathas was the leading performer in 50.57 seconds.
The semifinal takes place on Tuesday at 1:50 p.m.
In the women’s 200, both Strachan and Gaither made it to the semis. Strachan won heat one in 22.86 seconds and Gaither was third in heat four in a season best 22.57 seconds.
