Less than a month after being named to the roster for the 2018 Allen Iverson Classic, Grand Bahama native Franco Miller Jr. has been invited to compete in another high-level showcase this month.
The 6’3” combo guard was recently invited to compete in the first ever All-Canadian Showcase, the second Canadian high school event to be certified by the National Basketball Association (NBA).
The Bio-Steel All-Canadian Game was the first.
The All-Canadian Showcase will be held at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga on April 23 and will be streamed online.
Practices will also be open to NBA scouts. Along with Miller Jr., some of the other players competing in the game include ESPN’s No. 1 ranked prospect R.J. Barrett, Harvard commit Noah Kirkwood and Florida-bound Andrew Nembhard.
“As Canadian basketball continues to expand and the talent is increasing, just like the U.S., the athletes deserve another game,” said organizer Dwayne Washington.
“Not everyone gets into the other game, and the timing can make it difficult. This is an opportunity for us to showcase the talent we have in Canada. We want to give people in Canada the access to see all these kids before they head to college.
“We wanted to make sure that this event is NBA-certified, because there are diamonds in the rough here, including known players that NBA scouts may not get to see based on their schedule.”
Miller currently has offers from five National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I teams, including Hofstra, St. Bonaventure, Wyoming, UIC and Montana State.
Miller led Crestwood Prep to a third-place finish in the Eastern Conference of the National Preparatory Association (NPA). He was the league’s fourth best scorer at just over 21 points per game. He also pulled down four rebounds and dished out 3.6 assists.
Miller played most of last summer for his Crestwood coach Ro Russell’s Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) team, Grassroots Elite. Due to his strong play on the circuit, he was invited to join Crestwood’s boys team.
