NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Global Ports Holding (GPH), the world’s largest independent cruise port operator, on Wednesday announced the appointment of Michael Maura, Jr. as GPH’s regional director for the Caribbean and Americas.

CEO of Global Ports Holding, Emre Sayin, expressed the team’s delight at Maura’s appointment.

“Mike’s extensive industry experience and commitment to service and operational excellence make him a perfect fit to help us achieve the ambitious goals that we’ve set to expand our regional footprint,” said Sayin in a statement released yesterday. “His impressive level of maritime industry knowledge and leadership skills are among the best we’ve found anywhere in the world. We are very pleased to add this outstanding Bahamian businessman to our team.”

Global Ports Holding is expected to open its new Caribbean and Americas Regional Headquarters in Nassau, Bahamas.

The headquarters will be based in downtown Nassau.

Michael Maura Jr, the newly-appointed Regional Director for the Caribbean and the Americas, said the opening of a new regional headquarters in Nassau not only underlines GPH’s long-term commitment to The Bahamas, but also to the whole Caribbean region.

“In addition to creating exciting employment opportunities locally, our new regional head office will play a pivotal part in delivering GPH’s strategy to grow its presence in the Caribbean and wider Americas region. GPH is a dynamic, exciting company, and I’m very pleased to be joining the team. This role presents a fantastic opportunity to help the company continue to grow and strengthen its presence in the market,” Maura said.

GPH said the new Regional Headquarters will play a central role in delivering GPH’s strategy for growth in the Caribbean and wider Americas region.

According to GPH, the Caribbean accounts for more than one third of the global cruise industry market share, and the industry is continuing to experience record levels of growth as more ships are being built and more cruise lines are entering the business.

“Having a presence in Nassau will allow GPH to play a central role in the industry’s future development in the region,” the company said.

GPH said it is continuing to build and strengthen its team of regional executives to include some of the best talent in the industry from around the world.

“Colin Murphy, Head of Business Development for The Americas, was the first executive appointed to the Caribbean and Americas Team in December 2017. A long-time cruise industry executive, Colin brings a wealth of cruise industry experience to his role, having worked for 19 years at Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) before joining GPH,” the company said.
