Slain cop’s family, friends speak out

Police are still looking for the man responsible for the shooting death of Inspector Carlis Blatch who was gunned down Wednesday afternoon just steps away from the front entrance of H.O. Nash Junior School.

Friends and colleagues of the slain officer remember him as an upstanding professional.

Sonny Miller, Executive Chairman, Police Staff Association (PSA) told Eyewitness News Thursday that officers, in every rank, mourn the shocking shooting death of one of their colleagues.

He said the daylight attack underscores the dangers that officers face every day when they report to work.

Glenys Hanna-Martin, Englerston MP, spoke to EWN outside of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) Wednesday evening, she said Blatche’s death is an indicator that crime remains a huge issue.

Hanna-Martin maintained a working relationship with Blatche.

He served at Government House during her grandfather, A.D. Hanna’s tenure as Governor-General.

Hanna-Martin described the victim as a stellar professional and questioned the motive behind the brazen daylight crime.

Police confirmed Thursday that the hunt for the culprit remained underway and that their efforts would remain relentless until he is found.

All all-points bulletin released on the gunman describes him as 5 feet 11 inches tall, dark brown complexion and medium build.

The Office of the Governor General Dame Marguerite Pindling released a statement on the passing of Inspector Carlis Blatch who served as her Aide de Camp (ADC) for the past four years working very closely with her in all state matters.

Blatch was on staff for the past 14 years and, according to the statement, served with distinction as the officer in charge of protocol, then as ADC to the Governor-General. His service at Government House was marked by his expert understanding of the procedures which attend the house’s affairs.

He was noted for always took great care to pass on his expertise to other staff, among whom he was highly regarded.

Government House staff also received grief councilling Thursday from various ministers of the gospel.
