Man charged with stealing and fraud

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Stephen Smith, 47, was charged in Magistrate’s Court on Monday with stealing and fraud.

Between June 18 to August 28, the accused robbed Robert Jennings of items that he was responsible for shipping and money that he paid to have them shipped.

After receiving a payment of $9,506 from Jennings, Smith told him that his items were not shipped due to non-payment.  It was also revealed in court that Jennings then paid another $9,734 to Smith who pleaded guilty to the charge, but was granted conditional discharge by Judge Kara Turnquest after he immediately paid a total of $4,000.

Failure to pay the balance by Feb. 28 will lead to Smith being sentenced to nine months at the Bahamas Department of Corrections.
